Description
Ses Salines was declared a Natural Park in 2001 and constitutes one of the essential visits to be made in Ibiza. The territory of the reserve covers almost 3,000 terrestrial hectares as well as 13,000 marine hectares, and extends to the south of Ibiza and the north of Formentera, also occupying the arm of the sea that separates them. This is home to a large part of the seagrass meadows that surround the islands and which are part of the declaration of Ibiza as a World Heritage Site in 1999. Their action is the cause of the island's rich marine biodiversity, as well as the purity of its waters and even the landscape of the Pitiusa coast.
We can find a great variety of environments with different ecological characteristics: the salt lakes, the beaches, the sand dunes with centuries-old junipers, the cliffs and the rocky coasts, where you can find bird species like the peregrine falcon and the osprey, and include the islets des Freus (s'Espalmador, s'Espardell, the islet of Penjats…).
